Here…Now (2007)
Free From Wynton Himself
Here…Now is Wynton Marsalis’ commissioned piece for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, released in June 2007 and originally available only from Wynton’s website. From what I can tell, the approximately 24 minute work is a web only release, not available on CD or in any other format. The piece is dedicated to triple Gold medalist runner Florence Griffith Joyner, who died of an epileptic seizure at 38. The nine piece septet (huh?) features Wynton Marsalis (trumpet), Wessel Anderson (alto sax), Victor Goines (tenor, soprano sax), Ronald Westray, Vincent Gardner (trombone), Richard Johnson (piano), Gerald Cannon, Kengo Nakamura (bass) and Ali Jackson (drums). Hear the entire piece below (it’s also downloadable from the Bandcamp player @128) and get it here @192, as on Wynton’s site.
