MARIANNE FAITHFULL Horses And High Heels (Advance Listen)

MARIANNE FAITHFULL
Horses And High Heels
(2011)
Produced by Hal Willner

The latest from Marianne Faithfull, recorded in New Orleans by the great Hal Willner. More pop, stylistically, than her recent efforts. The proceedings are dominated by Faithfull’s mesmerizingly tortured voice, which is simultaneously fragile, and forged by steel. The kind of voice you’re likely to either adopt or abandon, depending on your tastes. Horses And High Heels is satisfying for it’s stylistic consistency, though it’s comprised of mostly covers (and a handful of originals). Check out the dreamy, Pink Floyd vibe that recasts Elton John’s “Love Song,” below. Lou Reed, Dr, John and Wayne Kramer (MC5) cameo. Not for download. The import is available at Amazon, Feb. 8.
