Acid Drops, Spacedust & Flying Saucers: Psychedelic Confectionery From The UK Underground 1965-69 (2001)
A Psych Box To Get Psyched About

Another great box from the archives. 4CDs, compiled by the fine folks at MOJO Magazine, chronicling the UK psychedelic experience. Compilations always create quibbles, but this is a great listen regardless of what’s been omitted or curiously added. The names below will tell you all you need to know, but your ears are the ultimate decider… and they should be pleased. Check out the great 1968 psych tune from McGough & McGear (a.k.a. Mike McCartney), “So Much.” Includes booklet art. Out of print, and it’s not cheap at Amazon.

Projects like this are so cool and great to get these days. There was no way in hell you could have assembled the likes of this set during the time all these were current unless you worked for a record store or radio station and/or were independently wealthy. I was able to assemble maybe a third of these titles and that took nw until the late 80s to do so and THAT was only the titles released in the USA plus a rare inport single here and there. I don’t think the young folks appreciate how much we are in the golden age of music collecting RIGHT NOW. Yes, there is still much to discover, unearth and re-examine and quite possibly some titles may never see the wide issue (I’m thinking of the private press titles, the under 1000 run LPs that are now going for mega-bucks here in the states and on eBay, many of which are astounding musically and terminally unique) afforded groups that had the luck to be released on major labels. But from what I’ve seen the last few years of my online collecting many of those are now starting to be recognized and digitized. For most of us ‘scholars’ this opens up a deep treasure trove of music we never would have heard due to the scarcity. These are great days. Let’s hope civilization doesn’t collapse before we get to digest all of it. Thanks Willard.
