She’s About To Cross My Mind (2007)
Pure Pop Of The Pre-Revolver Kind
I first grabbed this over at the great pop source, Power Pop Overdose. Pure bred Rickenbacker pop rock, hinting at mid-to-late 60s psych pop, originally inspired by Mersyside, UK and a host of various bands – from generic Farfisa-fueled garage types to the holy Beatles. Spot on vocals, sentiment, simplicity and just the right amount of unapologetic technique based on pre-Revolver pop (though, “Free” serves as the almost obligatory re-make of “Rain”). How this song style ever fell from grace is beyond me. Hear how many familiar pop elements all seamlessly interconnect within “Floating By,” below. The entire LP is retro and vibrant at the same time. Fans of Lennon’s early vocal tone should appreciate the harmonies. Amazon.
