Phil Lesh – Bass
Bob Weir – Rhythm Guitar
John Kadlecik – Lead Guitar

Jay Lane – Drums
Joe Russo – Drums
Not unlike the 2001 movie Rock Star, lead guitarist John Kadlecik has made the leap from fronting a beloved Grateful Dead tribute band, Dark Star Orchestra, to playing with (some of) the Dead themselves. The result is a new band, Furthur, which debuted in September. They’re already getting raves from Deadheads who feel that Kadlecik has effectively re-introduced the ghost of Jerry Garcia into the Dead’s live equation. This stream comes from The Internet Archive, which has other, inferior Furthur audience recordings for download, but this soundboard version is the one you want to hear. So here’s the question… Did Kadlecik join up with members of the Dead, or did members of the Dead join up with a tribute band? It’s probably best not to think much about it and just enjoy the ride.

Rock Star was based on the true story of Judas Priest replacing Halford with a singer from a tribute band so….. Art copies life and then life copies art right back.
Another example of this is the Peter Sellers film 'Being There' used as the template for Obama

Well, I'm only a couple of minutes into the opening jam, but I'm having a fine time. Is there any way of transferring this, er, "stream" into an 8-track tape so I can play it on my radio?
It's kind of funny when you think of it. For all the new music The Grateful Dead made, is this the best Phil Lesh and Bob Weir can do.
This represents only what they did on Sept 18th, 2009.
And the Dead tour they just did with Warren Haynes represented what they did for their career.
"Futhur" is fun to listen to. My point is Lesh and Weir seem to just want to play the old songs instead of making new music.
Seems to me they're doing what they've always loved best, playing.
With such a diverse and endlessly flexible back catalog to mine, it's hardly surprising that Lesh and Weir aren't going to rent that cottage in the country for a month and come up with a set of entirely new material. And how old are these guys, anyway?
(Thanks for the Victrola-friendly link, Yotte – now I can engrave that wax cylinder!)
That live download link is one of the audience performances from Internet Archive. Quality isn't half as good the streamer here. Internet Archive had the good one for download but pulled it for some reason.
