HARDWARE Third Eye Open
DEADLINE Dissident (1992)
Laswell’s Never-Ending Studio Tour
Hardware is yet another in a long series of producer Bill Laswell’s experimentations with the fusion of every musical genre possible. In this case, a 70s-styled hard rock & soul power trio, with an unavoidable Hendrix spin and some funky underpinnings, courtesy of Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins. Drummer Buddy Miles’ thundering simplicity is front and center from the get go, but the entire project centers around guitarist/vocalist Stevie Salas. For something a bit more groovy, the Deadline moniker was first implemented by Laswell in the mid-80s, fusing African & industrial beats with funky synths and the studio’s kitchen sink. In 1992, Laswell resurrected the name with a whole new angle… three bassists; Jonas Hellborg, Bootsy Collins and Laswell himself, along with some familiar pals. The pace on Dissident is more groove-oriented and laid back but just as weird and quietly funky. Needless to say, they’re both out of print. Find Hardware (HERE) and Deadline (HERE) At Amazon.

Thanks, Laswell is almost always welcome in my collection!
i met laswell once at a praxis gig in san diego. he doesn't play too much over here on the west coast, wtf ever happened to that guy,eh?
Cool… he's probably holed up in a studio somewhere.
Hi,
I only know Laswell from a fantastic 12inch somwere early 80's with Material. I think the title "don't loose control'. This music was hot at the club I worked as a dj. That is loooong ago.
Gonna take a look at this.
Thanks For Deadline!!!
Thanx, Willard. I’ve enjoyed [most of] what Laswell has done ever since the early 80s/Celluloid label days, but find him pretty hard to keep track of. Thanx for making the trail easier to follow!
