Superfly (1972/1997)
2CD Edition With Demos And Outtakes
The mother of all blaxploitation soundtracks, from one of soul/R&B’s most consistently excellent artists. Yeah, there are other great black film scores, Shaft, Trouble Man, Black Caesar… but the smooth, soulful Superfly, and more specifically Curtis Mayfield, has no peer. Truth be told, this 2CD edition is a bit of a stretch. The original 70s album and almost all of this set’s instrumentals and demos would have fit onto a single CD. But label wiz kids added a 7 minute spoken word interview as an excuse to stretch this 25th Anniversary Edition to a higher price point. No matter. It’s all good… and we’re not jacking up the price here @ The Boat. (@320)

Thanks, Willard, for this superb slice of funk. Just saw the newest (& very excellent) American Masters show on PBS about the life of Sam Cooke. Anything in the vaults featuring him?
thanks willard for this. keep up the good work!
Thanks!
This will be my theme music as I walk down the street today…..
Everybody needs theme music….lol
One of the greatest soundtracks ever produced. Mayfield brings his well crafted lyrics and funky fresh guitar to the table on this one and scores big! The world is a sadder place with out Curtis Mayfield.
Right-O Curty. I remember how sad and beautiful his last album, New World Order was. Recorded after being paralyzed, Curtis tapes the vocals line by line, one at a time, and he still sounded good. Thanks for all the comments.
This is great stuff! I was into it as a kid way back when and it's good to re-visit Mr. Mayfield via your fine blog. Thanks, boboquisp
Bad as bitch's in the bed. Thanx……
First disc is blocked by MF. As always, many, many thanks Capt. Willard, sir!
