That quote's a keeper.
After listening to the album I honestly felt an overwhelming sense of "So what?".
It was tedious and tiresome, not an ounce of spark the Beatles had.
A rather boring and sentimentally self conscious effort from a Face(less)book act soon to be forgotten on the horizon of last decade.
Capt. Willard, this is so far from what I expected from your description because if this is "the best" then mashups IMHO are old news.
I shan't discuss tis any further…
Someone is short on herb.
Damned inventive. Better than than Dangermouse crap.
Why is that guy dumping on the beatles? He calls it a self conscious effort, but it's not someone else, its the Beatles! A few of these tracks are stright from the albums. That guy doesn't even know what he's hearing.
Press Quote Envy.
So, just to clarify, this is all from John & Yoko's Two Virgins, Life With The Lions, Wedding Album, and some crowd noise and stage banter from the live album from Some Time In New York City, and George Harrison's Electronic Sounds & Wonderwall albums. It seems like they could have involved Paul by sampling Kren A Kore from the McCartney album.
Mother They're Trying To Crucify Me! and I Like It!
Ok, you want my reaction?
Chin-strokers unite! I don't need herb to call this.
The Emperor hath no clothe.
Disturbing? Yes. Intimate? In a cold way, yes. Dumping on the Beatles? No, this mash up is the only dump IMO. (Some readings of my post are more than a little faulty.) I clearly said it lacks the spark the Beatles have, "it" being the mashup. If a few are straight from the albums then it's not a good mash, is it? It's plagiarism. Go check thyselves in. It's certainly not Musique Concrete, that Sir Paul actually likes and does.
The whole mashup style is on the wain. Yep, Mashup is the new D&B, cloying it's last gasp of attention from your ears. As for Beatles albums, it's Beatles members' albums being passed off as a Beatles mashup. All the Beatles members' own albums lacked the "spark" of the whole unit. Read the engineer's accounts of working with them in the book Complete Beatles Recording Sessions. The Beatles were the 4 guys together.
BTW these releases were in their time considered oddities or just plain crap albums compared to Beatles albums and their sales reflect that to this day.
How do I know Beatles music? I was alive when they released each one and still have all the vinyls. That's my badge of honour. Separately, Sir Paul's records were cool, George was off centre, Lennon was cold as ice and Ringo is cabaret. But together…!
I don't need a We're Late For Class or any one of a bunch of scared faceless DAW nerds hiding behind release #XX to remind me how adventurous the Beatles are. Those Beatles guys with 8 tracks at the most leave any and all the mashup crew to shame. Mashup is like a train-spotters comedy act to my ears. Please find your own things to say without attacking my opinion and don't forget to enjoy this "music".
Still Anon
I'm enjoying all this
RE: Mr. Hate
First he said he wouldn't discuss it any further (then did), then he asked if we wanted his reaction (we didn't, but he gave it anyway), he hates the individual albums (they were considered crap at the time), hates mash ups (they're on the wain), hates that it's Beatles *members* albums being passed off as a Beatles mash up, hates bands hiding behind numbered releases (WTF?), … hate hate hate. He also hates people attacking his opinion. Your not Anon, you're Mr. Hate, and despite what you say, you really *do* need some herb.
Paul (no not that one)
I'll listen to this before I ever listen to Two Virgins or Electronic Sound or most of the other albums this music came from.
Too funny. On the bands blog they posted a quote from Mr. Hate.
Sorry Mr. hate. You're just spewing a little too much vile now.
Well, you guys attacked rather than illuminated.
Cheers
Still Anon
As did you! Relentlessly with hatred, whether you used the word or not. Some people say they like it, some don't. There's no "illumination" necessary. You didn't… for what sounds like a lot of issues you had before you even heard it. Be cool or be gone, like you promised with your first comment.
Dude,
If you play this stuff backwards, you'll hear some guy bitching & moaning. Whoa.
Willard,
You said it best yourself on the Hate mash up post –
"Still, if (like myself) you're an irreverent type, you might feel that The Beatles are already etched in stone for whenever you need them – and what anyone else decides to create from the debris is nothing to get hung about."
Here's what the website says about the albums they used to mash this. Theres lots of McCartney.
Wonderwall Music
Two Virgins
Electronic Sound
Life With The Lions
Wedding Album
Live Peace In Toronto 1969
McCartney
Some Time In New York City

("It's So Hard" and a piece of dialog are from a bootleg and there are a couple of seconds from Anthology 3)
Willard,
Delete that guy. He's talking in circles. He says the solo Beatles albums have none of the spark of the full band, then he criticizes these mixers for not having that spark either. We get it. Only The Beatles are the greatest and everything else is shit. We all know that viewpoint. By the way, nothing is being passed off, as you say, as a Beatles mashup versus a solo Beatles mashup. It's in big letters on the cover. Maybe you should read the band's blog. "We originally made this for our amusement, then figured, hey… why not share it?" Anon apparently thinks it's more important than the band does. Delete him Willard.
-Dave
Delete!
Oh my ! I don't think we are in Liverpool anymore Toto.
Just click your heels three times and say "There's no place like Abbey Road"
For my twopennorth, I think it is a hoot, how can anyone slag this off unless they are the worst of all scum, the Beatles fan without a sense of HUMOUR !! (Shudder)
listen, laugh and move on
Well done all at Were Late For Class and thanks Cap'n Willard

Dear Readers,
Deletions have already happened.
Pls be content with the values of the Moderator.
I am.
I love this blogsite even if I'm called "worst of all scum".

ps I'm eagerly awaiting their "Police" mash using only Animal Logic and and If On a Winter's Night.
I can read the tiny writing on the album cover and it says "Beatles Experimental Solo Albums".
I think Still Anon should apologise.
I can see it now.
It is written in the tiniest of writing.
All you guys were right.
I was completely wrong.
I apologise.
As for quoting me things I didn't say, it doesn't matter now.
Ciao

To err is human, to forgive, divine. Just don't fuck with the Beatles.
This is fantastic, I shall definitely buy it, and I prefer the Stones.
I like this because its not as cluttered as those other ones. I'm not a Beasties or Wu fan so those others just sound like beats and singers with a Beatles album in the background in the other room. This you can hear everything. i recognize where a lot of this came from and like hearing it shorn of fat. OK to me.
It's got 4 letters and rhymes with bit!!
What I found most interesting about this one is that for the first time – to my ears anyway – it's almost like the trick is sound as UN-Beatley as possible by using all the obscure stuff and more familiar material in really convoluted ways. On that level, it's a really intersting project. A few of the tracks are interminable, however. I can't stand, personally, listening to "John, Yoko, ,John, Yoko) appearing and reappearing over an interminable loop for almost 20 minutes. But lots of interesting moments and much well-crafted work.
Jim
Thanks, kind students, for your reply. Regarding the repetitive John-&-Yoko-as-satire, it's funny you mentioned that. When I experienced its grating unpleasantness, it was with the awareness that what was REALLY getting to me was the raw narcissism of two icons bringing out the worst in each other in that moment – not that the relationship was unilaterally that way (it wasn't, was it?) But I can respect your putting it in that perspective. (Can you dig it?)
