RINGO STARR "A Major Demonstration Of My Drum Work"

“A Major Demonstration Of My Drum Work(1:48)

Have you ever wondered why Ringo Starr’s style is so distinctive? His odd pauses and curious fills? Turns out there’s a reason. He’s “a left-handed, right-handed drummer,” Ringo explains on this 1:48 MP3 treat, “A Major Demonstration of My Drum Work.” Now you can actually explain Richard Starkey’s mysterious & magical allure to that Neil Peart obsessive at work.

Thanks Ringo! It's great to hear how any artists makes his distinct style.
    I've always loved your drumming.

i never knew that ringo was a lefty but i did know that paul play his drums often and he was also a lefty playing a right kit so i wonder if they had a common bond as drummers???

Could be. I always thought Paul was just mimicking Ringo, or that he absorbed Ringo's influence from so many years together. Maybe it was just the lefty thing all along.

I’ve just found this, and as a drummer (left handed in some ways, but a right-handed drummer) who used to obsess about which hand to start a fill with – well, not obsess, but I did experiment with other methods of doing it – I found this really illuminating. I just thought this kind of thing was personal to me, and that no one else would be in the slightest bit interested.

I never really cared about the Beatles one way or the other, but his drumming was perfect for them.

    Thanks.

I’m not a drummer at all, but I was fascinated by what made him sound the way he does. Since there was an actual explanation for it (besides the catch-all “style”) seemed like it might interest somebody. Glad you found it and thanks for for commenting.
