Mojo Presents: Journey To Love (November, 2010)
Rare & Early Elektra Classics
The latest issue of the UK’s Mojo Magazine features a cover story on Elektra Records, best known as the L.A. label to The Doors and Love, but more respected for the platform founder Jac Holzman gave the late-50s folk music scene. This disc, selected and sequenced by Holzman himself, focuses mostly on that early aspect of the label’s catalog. There are no Doors (like you even need any more), but plenty of cool selections from the likes of Fred Neil, The Dillards, Phil Ochs, Tim Buckley and more. I haven’t read the piece yet, but a few tracks have vinyl surface noise, so it’s possible they’re new to the CD age. Art included.
