The Frank & Cappy Hour
The History & Collected Improvisations of Frank Zappa & Captain Beefheart.
The duo’s officially released unions (1959-1975) from the discs Hot Rats, Trout Mask Replica, Bongo Fury, Grow Fins, The Lost Episodes, Mystery Disc, YCDTOSA4 and a 1975 bootlegged radio broadcast. It’s hardly complete, as Beefheart’s harp appeared unbilled on a few Zappa albums. Besides… I’m just sure something’s been forgotten. It begins with a string of Frank & Don’s obscure 50s/60s live-in-the-studio recordings, includes a few tapes from a joint, syndicated radio show (get the entire show over at Studio Zappa), a few studio classics (“The Blimp,” “Willie The Pimp”) and concludes with tracks from Bongo Fury, the pair’s 1975 live album. There are plenty of cool tracks for the uninitiated; an alternate “The Torture Never Stops,” odd spoken-word takes, 1969′s “Alley Cat” and more. The early live studio stuff is a riot, especially when the good Captain gets his pig squeal going. For connoisseurs, it’s an alt listening sequence. Hear the first 5 tracks below.

You know. . . probably the best thing about that Zappa "Lost Episodes" cd, ISN'T the Beefheart stuff (as much as I love Don), but the insane version of "Wonderful Wino" with Ricky Lancelotti on vocals
: heavy guitars, silly lyrics about getting drunk, and insane over the top (and still tuneful) vocals.
Your right. There's a lot cooler stuff on Mystery Disc, too. But… I was just curious how much Frank & Don there was. Thanks for commenting.
