I really miss HST's unique voice. Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail '72 should be required reading for anyone interested in the US political system.

Oh, how right you are. Thompson's greatest quote is from that book…

"Richard Nixon has never been one of my favorite people anyway. For years I've regarded his existence as a monument to all the rancid genes and broken chromosones that corrupt the possibilities of the American Dream; he was a foul caricature of himself, a man with no soul, no inner convictions, with the integrity of a hyena and the style of a poison toad. The Nixon I remembered was absolutely humorless; I couldn't imagine him laughing at anything except maybe a paraplegic who wanted to vote Democratic but couldn't quite reach the lever on the voting machine."

Fear & Loathing On The Campaign Trail, The Great Shark Hunt (which I'm cracking out again tonight) and Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas are all books worth one's time. The footage in Gonzo looks great.

You can watch Jann Wenner, Graydon Carter & Alex Gibney going on about it at Charlie Rose's site.

Can't wait for the movie. I am rereading Campaign Trail right now. The more things change the more they remain the same.

I read it recently too. All you need to do is substitute the names of Nixon's cabinet with Bush's and it all still fits. The names may have changed…

Thanks, for posting this trailer, I did go see it, and felt it was worth 2 hours of my life to see Dr.Gonzo.

I once waited in line for him to show at my University….he never did, word came in he broke his leg, missed his flight, but I've always wished he'd made it.

You people are sheep. HST was a pathetic excuse of a journalist.

He wasn’t a journalist… and no one here even suggested he was, so you’re addressing the wrong sheep.
