THE ROYAL GUARDSMEN "Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron"

I heard 1966’s “Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron” for the first time in a few decades and was surprised to hear how much these guys sounded exactly like late 70s pop/new wave icon Nick Lowe. The Comments consensus seems to agree the band is breaking into “Hang On Sloopy” for the bridge.

Wow, Nick Lowe indeed. Same haircut, too, until the Cowboy Outfit phase.

Seeing as how this is election year everyone owes it to themselves to listen to the Guardsmen track below at least once all the way through. No skipping to the end, either!

An old fave indeed! but I believe that's "Hang On Sloopy," not "Louie Louie" there. ;-)

I agree with the other anonymous. I think it is Hang on Sloopy. Either way, it's cool. And I could see Nick Lowe doing that song.

You guys are probably right. Maybe I listen to Zappa too much… who's ALWAYS breaking into "Louie Louie." Thanks for the comments.

I had the album this was on when I was a kid..a novelty song for sure, but the rest of the album wasn't bad..at least that's the way I remember it..would love to find it for download somewhere.
