A Good Week’s Work (1998)
Rockpile’s Glue
You can hear echoes of both Nick Lowe’s and Dave Edmunds‘ respective styles in Billy Bremner’s rockin‘ fusion of 50s retro and 60s pop, A Good Week’s Work. In the tradition of Rockpile, the group Bremner admirably anchored while Nick & Dave traded leadership, A Good Week’s Work sounds like, well… Rockpile – which is a good thing, especially when mixed with Billy’s warm sentimentality and introspection. The songs sport well-defined hooks, BB’s vocals blend both Nick’s pop vox & Dave’s twang and the band is a stripped engine of (generally) chooglin‘ rock. Recorded in Sweden in 7 days (hence, the title) with just a bassist, drummer and a few Billys. A low budget release, but after a couple of spins the tunes will stick like glue. $5 @ Amazon.
