A Tribute To The Best Damn Fiddle Player In The World (or, My Salute To Bob Wills) (1970)
Is… This Your Card?
G mentioned an album featuring Merle Haggard and Bob Wills (For The Last Time, coming up) in the comments of our Original Texas Playboys post. Which made us think of this one. Merle Haggard, along with his band, The Strangers, and members of Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys, gettin’ swingy with it in 1970. It’s a keeper. Thanks G. An arm and a leg at Amazon, however.

Also apropos is Bob’s swan song, ‘For the Last Time’.
Actually, that’s the session G was talkin’ about.
Looking forward to this! Thanks W!
The Captain has done it again – - more of the Original Texas Playboys. Like I mentioned in the post for the first Wills mention – and Captain’s knowledge of music amazes me – the set I mentioned was “For The Last Time”. (and I still can’t find that one)
The booklet (it was a 2 album box set) had an interview with Haggard and the first album cut was the famous sign on – Haggard had always wanted to work with The Texas Playboys, it had been, if I remember, on of his dreams – and the set starts off with, and if my (with apolgies to “The Band” ) ‘memory serves me well’ Merle using their famous sign on phrase
The Texas Plaboys Are On The Air
Thanks – as always – for sharing the music

Hey Miles. Yeah, I think we had some issues the other day. Thanks for the persistence.
Havent heard this in forever…my dad was a huge Merle fan and we would often listen to this one, Same Train Different Time tribute to Jimmie Rodgers was my personal fave. Any chance of that turning up?
PS, this will also work for my 92 yr old father in law! Thanx for sharing!
Al
Don’t have that one, Al. Thanks for the comments.
