MOJO Presents… All 151 MOJO CDs (1997-2014)

TAH-DAAAH!

Welcome to the end of our MOJO Magazine CD archive. Over the years we’ve been slowly pulling together all of the free discs MOJO has given away to readers each month, and we think we finally have them all. 151, by our count, and all you have to do is click HERE to access them all. Titles and individual links for each disc are on the right side of the blog. If any links are down, just leave a comment on the post for a re-up.

Hopefully, any readers/completists out there will clue us in to anything we may have missed. Right now, we’re not including CDs from MOJO‘s offshoots, like MOJO Classic or their short-lived Collection’s magazine – which once gave away a Lee “Scratch” Perry 7″ single. Maybe later. Big thanks to everybody who has taken the time to send us parts of their collection to help complete this gathering. We couldn’t have done it without all your help. As you’ll see, MOJO started slow in 1997 with a series of label-sponsored collections entitled The MOJO Machine Turns You On. Then, over the next four years, from 2000-2004, they released only the occasional compilation – with thematic threads that helped to distinguish the magazine’s offerings from the typical label-dictated freebies of other mags. But, MOJO didn’t settle in to a monthly routine until July, 2004′s Chili Peppers Jukebox. Since then, they haven’t looked back. FYI: Twice, MOJO issued two CDs – September, 2004′s Beatlemania, Volumes 1 & 2 and January, 2006′s Born In The USA, Volumes 1 & 2. My guess is that readers pitched a fit over having to buy two issues of the magazine to get both CDs, as MOJO hasn’t doubled-up since. A few of the gaps on our list did feature freebies other than music; postcards, posters, prints, even a small bag of buttons once. As for anything before 1997, we’re clueless, but we don’t think any CDs were given away during those years (MOJO debuted in November, 1993). So… take a look and see if you have something we don’t. If we did miss something, let us know and we’ll do another TAA-DAAAH! post.

Thanks heaps for these. I have downloaded most, if not all of them over the course of this project.

What will your next challenge be, Captain? The Uncut Magazine CD series?

Not sure. The only reason I did the MOJOs was because I already had a majority of them. Half were still sealed, so it gave me an opportunity to dig into them and see what was there. Plus, I didn’t start with the intention of doing them all, so it wasn’t like “work.” If I had started out thinking about posting 113 CDs, I probably would have passed. But… it was fun to hear what was in my own collection. Don’t have a single UnCut, though (except one we posted, which was donated). So… I don’t know. Any ideas?

I must be either blind or getting old because for the life of me I can NOT find the links to these fine discs. I click on the blue “HERE” icon – nothing. I look for the individual links on the bottom right of the blog – again nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Most of our pages open up into new windows, so if nothing happens when you click on the links, it might be because of a pop-up blocker. If you don’t see links on the right hand side, then it might be a browser issue. Some have noted that Chrome doesn’t show everything. This was built in Firefox, so that is probably best to use.

Not sure what to say about that, then. The right hand side of the blog is filled with links (make sure your window is expanded, width wise). About the only thing I can suggest is to clear your browser’s cache, though, I don’t know if that would do the trick or not. What about the pop ups? And, did you try clicking the grey box above the post?

Might your readers be interested in the Fast Folk Musical Magazine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_Folk)?

I could also contribute a huge fraction of the Putumayo Presents series if that’s more your style.

I have copies of Mojo going back to the first issue and am fairly sure that there were no CDs before 1997 based on my list of CDs. Mojo’s sister publication, Q, had more CDs in those days. On a completely different topic, do you happen to have any Little Steven CDs, particularly Revolution which I have been looking for for ages? Great blog by the way.

Thanks… I’m hesitant to tackle all that, frankly. Have only heard a couple of them and I’d have to rely on everybody else to supply it all. I gave a cursory look online and couldn’t even find any information sources about the discs, even from the mag’s site (cursory is the operative word here). So… I’m not sure.

Thanks 4 all Mojo’s…always introduced some newies to me. Uncut 170 ish?? Little Steven, eh? Saw them supporting Quo in London 84 – can’t remember what he sounded like but I do remember large plastic bottles [of piss?] being thrown at the stage during their set. He swore a bit n said he wasn’t coming back here again n that was their biggest cheer. Phil Lynnot’s new band were there too n I think they were shit too. Quo were ace. Cheers! Peace.

Funny. But, for future tellings you must leave out the question mark on ‘large plastic bottles of piss!’ It’s not only laugh out loud funny, but it says something about the Brits, who will go to extremes to let their performers know the score… and the Yanks who are generally just content to boo. Although, I was present, and witnessed (from the stage) small batteries that were thrown at Maggie Bell, when she was opening for an AC/DC show. I also heard Ian Anderson tell a story about getting hit in the chest with a used, bloody tampon… his words. So… we’re not without some imagination in the States. But, the next time I’m at a concert and feel overtly offended, I will surely, if only mentally, gauge my odds at getting away with hurling my piss front and center.

Great project Willard. I’ve started an Uncut archive at http://uncutjukebox.blogspot.com/. I don’t have them all (just over 100) so would appreciate help from others along the way. No download links as yet as the blog is just new but it’s going to keep me busy for a while.
