SPLITSVILLE Pet Soul EP (1998) + The Complete Pet Soul (2001)

Pet Soul (1998)
Lovely Beach Boys/60s Homage

A pal ‘o mine dropped this in the mail to me about 10 years ago, figuring it was up my alley. First listen and you’ll get the concept immediately. Some of the melodies aren’t all that surprising, but repeated listens will uncover the human characteristics lurking under the cloak of Beach Boys vocals, instrumentational quirks and nods to, as the back cover suggests, “a little bit of The Association and Herman’s Hermits, for good measure.” It’s only 11 minutes, coverbut it packs in a lot of ideas… and it happens to be right up my alley. The back cover states this was manufactured exclusively for the Poptopia Festival, in LA, 1998. So, maybe it’s rare, I don’t know. Wait… one moment, Dave… I’m getting a reading… Amazon tells me that this sampler preceded a very cool looking CD, The Complete Pet Soul (HERE, at Amazon). So… we’ve just added it to the download page, too. I don’t know jack about these guys and purposely haven’t looked. The EP, which isn’t at Amazon, just fell off the shelf (with all the Spirit discs (HERE) I yanked out last week), which is why you’re getting it now. A few spins and you’ll love it. Hear it all, below.

Great Band. Greenberry Woods albums are definitely worth checking out, too.

You’re very welcome, Willard, after all the good music you’ve connected me with. Spltisville’s other discs are good too, though they are not like this project.
