TARANTULA (1955) Speaking of good prints… we were last week, anyway. Here’s a classic Universal monster flick about a killer giant spider. Good effects (for the time) and a stirring score by (an uncredited) Henry Mancini and Herman Stein. Veteran Leo G. Carroll delivers the necessary gravitas, but he’s a clumsy old goat, and a slew of larger-than-they-should-be animals escape. Don’t blink or you’ll miss a baby-faced Clint Eastwood as a jet pilot delivering napalm and saving the world. DIALOG ALERT: “It’s the desert… gives people wonderful ideas.” Click a look at that great poster. The 2011 Universal Vault version of Tarantula is at Amazon, HERE, the poster is HERE. An original will set you back thousands. New Movies, Fridays ‘Round Midnight.
A NOTE TO UK USERS ABOUT DEPOSIT FILES: It appears that some UK residents trying to access our Deposit Files are, instead, seeing a page that requests their mobile phone number instead of links. JimmyJimmy noted that there’s a tiny red X in the top corner that will make the ads go away. Thanks.
