The Doors Of Perception – Dope Funk, Psychedelic Soul And Acid Jazz From NYC ’70 -’74 (2000)
Roots Of A Funky Musical Revolution

Fantastic collection of obscure 70s black-centric psych & funk from a variety of artists who, back in the day, were unafraid to push the boundaries of funk, jazz and avant soul music. Don’t let established jazzers like Dizzy Gillespie or Shirley Horn scare you off. These tracks illustrate they were just as adventurous as the post-60s, young turks with nothing to lose. Clearly, this is a collection that’s greater than the sum of its parts and a valuable look at the roots of modern acid jazz and nu-funk. Amazon.

This collection has it all! Funky (of course) but curious, quirky, odd, unusual, thankfully not just a collection of second-rate grooves by sleep walking soul jazzers. Choice selections, indeed! Thanks!
