The Deadly Mantis (1957)

THE DEADLY MANTIS (1957) Perry Mason’s PI sidekick William Hopper is on the case, playing it straight in this one, which is cheap but not dumb. Though… it should have a stock footage percentage disclaimer, as it looks like it was financed by the military. Of course, the sound of the star mantis (really just flapping wings, and what sounds like some guy screaming with the mic too close to his mouth) is classic monster movie stuff. Are there any fanatics out there that have ever considered a greatest monster vocal collection? Mothra, Godzilla, King Kong, those giant leeches in The Attack Of…, there are tons of ‘em. Know any bored completists? New Movies, Fridays ‘Round Midnight.
