VARIOUS ARTISTS White Lace & Strange (Heavy Psych And Power Fuzz From The USA 68-72) (2007)

White Lace & Strange (2007)
Truth In Advertising.

If you’re the type that came of age during the Cream/Experience era, or if you just get a chubby when you hear the words “heavy psych and power fuzz,” then you’re in the right place. This is the obscure stuff, originally issued in 2004, then re-issued in 2007. The only names I recognized were Road (Noel Redding’s band) and Illinois Speed Press. Hi Willard
The “Genesis” in question was actually an American band who broke up around the same time as the British one was gaining traction. It’s a convoluted story, but Amazon provides the short version:
“Not to be confused with the ”other” Genesis, featuring Phil Collins. Originally released in 1968, a… classic fusion of melodic songwriting. Leader Jack Ttanna had played in psych legends The Sons Of Adam, while guitarist Kent Henry would go on to join Steppenwolf, and their superb musicianship is showcased…(on) the only one the band ever released.”

They were cool too. Thanks for this!

Thanks Don. Fixed. When I put this together I thought the same thing. This can’t be the same band, so I THOUGHT I looked it up. I somehow found (or believed I found) that this song was on From Genesis To Revelation, that early 1969 stuff I’d never even heard. But, alas, I just checked again and it’s not. If this was about my memory, it’d be no new news. But, I actually looked this up and still blew it. It’s all downhill from here. Thanks for the editing.

Absolutely no worries. You have the best blog in the universe, and this is one of those things that still gets mixed up. Hell, I actually own the album, having bought it in the 70′s and thinking the very same thing. Actually, it is a freakin awesome album on it’s own, and “Angeline” is just one of the incredible songs on it. Happy New year!

I’ve always been bored silly by the “famed” _Matrix Tapes_. Boy, were the unsigned Doors slow!
Anyhow, great post and have a terrific New Year.

Yes, well… they are more famous than listenable. I didn’t bother with them for years (the old boots were the worst), but this edition is ok. It would still be near the bottom of this list for me, history notwithstanding, but it wasn’t quite as bad as I remembered it. Thanks for chiming in.

Hey Willard.. great post, as usual. Any chance of putting up Vol. 2 of this series… “The Room of Loud Sound”…. or any of the other comps that Nick Soloaman has been involved with, like “Realistic Patterns” ?

    Thanks!
