My first (and sadly, only) Dead show was on that tour, Hamilton, Ontario Canada, March something-or-other, 1990. Got to do a whole day on the parking lot festivities and everything, I went with a jamming buddy who’d got me into the Dead as a live thing in the first place, lost him, but got taken in by a great crew of Cornell kids up from Ithica. Got some great enhancers from a fellow I’d met in the drunk tank from getting too enhanced at a concert the summer before that I ran into! Wonder if that Hamilton show is in the set? I do have an audience tape of it from the tape trading days.

Go for it, Colin. It’s a great investment. I’ve had a handful of limited edition boxes over the years and have profited handily from them. Quadrupled my investment in the Dead’s Fillmore Box, I think maybe tripled my dough of the Stooges. The best part is you can enjoy it for a few years and feel relatively confident you’ll get a nice surprise out of it later. According to the website, they’re not going to release this stuff individually. Except for maybe a future digital download (they don’t say), this is supposed to be the only place to get this material. But.. these things sell out fast.

What a great tour that was — I saw all the Knickerbocker shows and one of the Nassau shows.

In fact, that was a period in my life when my vacations were scheduled around Dead tours….

All good now, friend – at least for the moment! As always, THANK YOU for freeing the music. These Brent era shows have tremendous energy – yet a certain sense of melancholy as well – Brent would pass away in July 1990 and looking back this tour seems a showcase of his talents as a vocalist and musician – give a listen to 03-15-90 (prior official release) where out of ‘space’ comes Brent’s impassioned I Will Take You Home – sends chills down my spine, that one does.
