Mesa Of Lost Women (1953)

MESA OF LOST WOMEN (1953) Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester) is a mad scientist dabbling in giant spider-making who decides to create a race of super women. Winner of the prestigious “Most Primitive Male Chauvinist Fantasy” award (prestigious, that is, if there are actually any other winners). The movie opens in the desert, the go-to locale for many classic cheapies without a budget, and the knowing voice over – chastising the puny human race while explaining the plot – is a riot. Bad characters, bad acting and bad music (the same crappy music used in Ed Wood, Jr.’s Jail Bait). Lots of slutty babes with bad hairdos, too. Dialog highlight: “You would drag me to this dive… this un-upholstered sewer.” There are other Ed Wood connections here too; the voice over is by Lyle Talbot (Glen Or Glenda, Plan 9 From Outer Space) and “actress” Dolores Fuller (Jail Bait, Bride Of The Monster) makes an appearance. Fuller would, amazingly, go on to write songs for Elvis Presley movies. Thanks to Johnny Pierre for suggesting this stinker. New Movies, Fridays ‘Round Midnight
