NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE Studio Jam 2012 & Austin City Limits (2012)

Studio Jam 2012 – Live At Broken Arrow Ranch (0212)
Austin City Limits – October 13, 2012 (2012)
Still Crazy After All These Years

Grabbed these from The Big O and they both hit the spot. Studio Jam 2012 features just two 18-minute live recordings from Broken Arrow Ranch, January 22, 2012. Perhaps someone can explain why I’m more fascinated by an untitled Crazy Horse jam (below) than I am with Neil’s legitimate albums? The untitled Jam also doubles as your own “Play Along With Crazy Horse” tape. The second set comes from Austin City Limits, earlier this month, as NY & CH premiere new songs from the upcoming Psychedelic Pill (9 songs, 2 discs, find it at Amazon) as well as some old faves.

Bit of a Neil overload here, but most appreciated. Having listened to PP today, the first track impressed mightily (nostalgia, anyone???), but some of the following seems a bit uneven. Now I get to listen to the unrehearsed material. Woohoo. Thanks from a long time Neil Young collector.

We saw Neil play that set at Austin City Limits – just amazing. “Down By The River” is one for the ages. Thanks Willard for posting!

Thanks, Willard! Don’t know that I’ll get to see Neil live this time (and sounds like he’s not
planning on touring much longer), so this is the next best thing.

Willard: The January jams were a fine apéritif for the shattering menu of “Driftin’ Back”, the 28-minute monster opening track from PsyPill. So badly played, so awfully rhymed (“Picasso”? The great painter actually is better dealt with by Sir Jonathan Richman’s “.. never was called an asshole!”), so endlessly endless, so incredibly retro, erratic as hell – what have you. Nevertheless, best track I’ve heard for years from neil & his Gang of Old Companeros. Herr Young, all is forgiven. By, at least: The Chairman

Captain, thank you! Live is best with these fellows, and this looks to be the best (fullest, likely best-sounding) of the boots of this current tour, so we (as always) owe you one for putting this up. All the best and sail on, sailor!
