FLO & EDDIE Live At The Roxy, 1976

Live At The Roxy, 1976
Mark & Howie’s Musical Comedy Hour

Fun live performance by former Mothers and full-time Turtles, Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan. Flo & Eddie’s live show is like their old syndicated radio show, in that it features a lot of chatter, gags, rock star name dropping and snippets of recognizable songs that often end up as little more than segues into (or outros out of) another routine. A musical variety hour to be sure, but not by any standard definition of the genre. On a good night, Volman & Kaylan’s chops are capable of serious, above average pop, so even they know they’re slummin’ a bit here. What’s important is that the sound is good, so it’s a listenable example of the duo’s frantic stage show – from the corny, old show biz intro to the predictable big hit single climax. “Every trick in the book,” Howie admits from the stage. Listen below to the mugging they give the Turtles’ classic “Elenore.” It’s all sloppy fun, kind of like hangin’ out with a great garage band… that happens to have Ian Underwood & The Fowler Brothers on horns.

Why is I've loved this malarkey for so long? And you don't by chance have "Illegal, Immoral…" about somewhere, do you?

Thanks for this site, btw – fine work all around.

More Flo & Eddie is always appreciated.

I keep hoping somebody actually has some masters from the "Dirty Duck" sessions they'll eventually release.

My vinyl copies from that "History…" 3-LP Turtles/Flo & Eddie Rhino release are starting to get too scratchy.

And whatever happened to Rhino Handmade's promise to release some of the "Rhythm Butchers" stuff, too?

Aaah! A follow on from Live at the Fillmore. Always liked the Zappa Flo and Eddie (my wife hates it – no guesses why) and solo Flo and Eddie, so this is a real bonus. Thanks.

Wow… what a treasure to stumble across. i saw them around this time… i was going to school in Windsor, across the river from Detroit when we learned that these two were playing in the basement of a once grand hotel.
it was an obvious opportunity to drop some acid and head over the bridge to Motown. they were so much fun and yet very solid musically too.
    thanks for the memories,
