JULEE CRUISE Floating Into The Night (1989) & The Voice Of Love (1993)

Floating Into The Night (1989)
The Voice Of Love (1993)
Weird Scenes Inside The Gold Mine

Dreamy, spacey, ethereal, sensuous, unsettling, mysterious, slightly unnerving and, for some reason, the kind of music I imagine hearing as I’m dying, pumped full of narcotics to ease the transition. Julee Cruise’s first two albums, recorded with soundtrack composer Angelo Badalamenti and off-kilter film director David Lynch, are triumphs of style and substance. Most know some of this music from the television show Twin Peaks, via the theme “Falling,” which expertly captures the weird, other-worldly energy these misfits have managed to generate. Cruise’s lighter-that-air vocals are almost unnatural, while Badalamenti’s hip fusion of Martian lounge and reverbed simplicity is strangely familiar, yet distantly unattainable. Lynch writes much of the lyric (and plays some percussion), but it’s the overall atmosphere that clings to you – and even creeps up on you after listening. Amazing stuff given the proper mood. You can find one or the other at Amazon for about a buck.

I have these CDs — so perfectly atmospheric. Have you seen Industrial Symphony No. 1? Lynch / Cruise theatre piece that really looks like a dying fever dream.

I dl’ed these from you roughly a year ago Willard, based upon your write up/recommendation. I still haven’t gotten around to listening to them. Perhaps seeing this a second time will provide the impetus to sit and listen finally.

Same problem I have. I grab tons of stuff then never have the time to listen. Got folders full of stuff that I’ll probably just start posting so I can hear them.
