TOM WAITS The Blues According To Tom Waits (1983-2004)

The Blues According To Tom Waits
A Compilation

I originally put this together for a Wait-less pal back in the day and figured I’d resurrect it here for those that might be interested. This set covers Waits: Phase II, 1983-2004 (Swordfishtrombones to his last studio album – at the time – Real Gone), The Blues According To Tom Waits is a working introduction/collection showcasing TW’s grittier, throat-ripping blues concoctions. No ballads or early piano material, just the raw stuff, with too many cool lyrics to count (“Tony Franciosa used to date my ma,” comes to mind). For my money, Waits is never better than when he’s bastardizing the blues. From: Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, Franks Wild Years, Bone Machine, Mule Variations, Hold On EP, & Real Gone, all at Amazon.

Brilliant, and ear-opening, Captain! And: definitely on par with the legendary Miles’ compilations (if both of you permit this frivolous verdict). Thanks, TC

A big thanks! Love Waits, but it’s useful to have as another
commentator says, his “tough” period sampled in one set.
    Cheers from Spain

Funny… I too saw him with leon redbone on the same bill (and also got some pics of tom between the gas pumps) just a few decades back… in the 80s.

I’m with Balzac from 2 years ago. I’ve got all of Tom Waits’ albums, but looking forward to hearing your compilation.
God knows I’ve tried many times to put TW samplers together, but rarely have I been able to convince someone to come over to the other side.
One notable exception: my wife became a convert, but not until she attended her first TW show in 2006.
    Regards, Dave.
