Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed & John Zorn Get Together, Make Noise And Piss People Off… You In?

The liner notes for this unusual improvisational meeting of Lou Reed (guitars, effects), Laurie Anderson (electric violin, synth) and John Zorn (sax), focus on a remark Zorn made from the stage of the Montreal Jazz Festival. Something to the effect of, “If you don’t like it, get the fuck out of here.” Apparently, it pissed some people off. Some thought this was going to be a rock and roll show (at a jazz fest) and didn’t want to be challenged by Anderson, Reed & Zorn’s alternate concept. Since, as we all know… rock and roll is supposed to be safe and familiar and non-challenging. Actually, being a big Zorn and Anderson fan, and tolerant of Reed’s excesses, I found this quite entertaining. Metal Machine Music is HERE, if this isn’t noisy enough for you.

I find Metal Machine Music ideal for drowning out the radio that is sometimes playing in the unit where I do dialysis. I’m getting to know it too well though, and it is starting to interrupt my reading, so i hope this will be a decent substitute. Looks interesting, anyway. Thanks,

I’m not sure it falls into the category of “quite entertaining”, but it has a certain something.
The quieter stretches in the sample are a little Crimson-esque.

Thanks, Willard. I’ve been curious about this one for a while. I like all three artists, especially Anderson.
