MOJO Presents x 3

Three more freebies from the UK’s MOJO Magazine. The latest, from the July 2011 issue, is a collection of new voices from the Communion label, spearheaded by the Mumford & Sons guys (who’ve somehow moved a couple million units as well as playing with Dylan @ The Grammys). We’re previewing the opening track by Michael Kiwanuka to illustrate this disc’s off-the-beaten-path appeal. Note that the artwork is misprinted and reads June, 2011, instead of July. The other MOJOs this week include another in an ongoing series of punk-and-its-roots collections, Trash! The Roots Of Punk. I like this one because it spent a month in the car and I learned to appreciate its audacity. Though, I never got why they led off with the Dolls’ “Personality Crisis” instead of “Trash.” Lastly, Blue Christmas, is a diverse and oddly cool Christmas collection. Why not? Some are at Amazon. Check the archives for dozens more MOJO discs. Three more next Sunday.

I love Mojo and their mixes are sometimes brilliant. What are great chance to sift through the ones that I’ve missed. Thanks, sir.

With a fair amount of skepticism I listened to the sample and was caught totally off guard by music that in a good way reminded me of Barclay James Harvest, or Spring, some other obscurity from 1971. I am acquiring as I write. Thanks Willard.

Hey, great to see you back up! I’m a first time commenter but you were the first music blog I really got into and I was bummed when you went down. Just picking up the “Trash” now!

What in the world is Be Bop Deluxe’s “Sound Track” doing on something called Trash? Root of punk? Don’t tell Bill Nelson! BTW, the bombardment of Nelson’s multi-guitar assault contained here is from the Futurama LP. It has more in common with Queen or Roxy Music. And is brilliant!

PS: always glad to find your blog…again! Thanks Willard.
