THE BEARS The Bears (1987)

BearsThe Bears (1987)
Adrian Belew’s Follow Up To Revolver

After playing the hired hand behind Zappa, Bowie & Talking Heads, Adrian Belew finally got himself a power pop band together to dish out a stirring, hyper-pop version of The Beatles, circa 1966/Revolver. Though no stranger to pop melodicism – injecting plenty into Cing Krimson for the last 25 years – Belew sounds so at home with The Bears that it’s unfortunate the unit didn’t mine this vein beyond two original albums, this one and 1988’s Rise and Shine. After those dusty cut-outs found a new market on Ebay, The Bears reunited in 2001 for two studio CDs (Car Caught Fire, EUREKA!) and a live release (Live) that were both loads of fun, but couldn’t possibly match the sheer exuberance of this fab debut. Most of The Bears stuff is long out of print, and going for collector’s prices at Amazon (HERE).

I've not got anything to say about the Bears, but I'd just like to say it's good to have you back in action, Willard.

    Best wishes.

Thanks for reposting this great album. For those that have Belew synonymous only with electric cats, elephants, and other assorted fedback noize, this album will be a nice surprise. Fear, like Willard, is never boring. Glad you're back!!

The Bears, their previous incarnation The Raisins (1983 album produced by Belew), and post-Belew trio Psychodots are legends in the Cincinnati area.

Thanks for this Willard…Mr. Belew is always worth a listen to outside of Zappa and K.C. something different from his usual stuff…cheers.

Anybody know where to find a working link for Adrian Belew’s Desire Caught by the Tail or Mr. Music Head? I can’t find anything.
