Who Knew Humor Magazines Would Be A Thing Of The Past?

Figured some oldsters might like enjoy this. A .pdf file of the January, 1973 issue of National Lampoon, sporting what is still one of the greatest magazine covers of all time. This issue has some classic features; The Playdead Interview with Dan Blocker (he’s dead, remember), the comic book The Adventures Of Deadman, the brilliant Gahan Wilson and tons of record company ads. Click the images for pop-up enlargements. It’s like stepping into a Wayback Machine.

I had a subscription to Nat Lam when I was 10. I think I read Mad for about a year before graduating to the harder stuff. A lot went over my head, but loved re-reading them as I got older. Proud to say I've got every issue in my collection…

Brings back bad memories, my nickname was "wiener" for a year, 73-74 in college, from posting their ad "You may already be a wiener" on my dorm room door. Nothing like farmboy subtlety.

Is it OK to bring that nickname back?

Holy crap, dude – this is fabulous! I subscribed to NatLamp as a precocious teenager and no longer have these remnants of my misspent youth.

I don't suppose you'd have access to others (by request)? 1974 was a particularly good year…

Hey guys. Just have to know. Ive been trying to replace the missing “Rosebud” of my youth. It was an issue of NL with, as i recall, a photo essay with a school tracher run amok. A female student was used as a living biology specimen, topless of course, the teacher doing things with his pointer. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Do I? Which issue was this? It was my uncles and i stole it. Fool that i was, in a hasty moment, i stashed it under my mom’s bed. (Oedipal, isnt it?). Never to be seen again. Please help me recapture one of my fondest lost memories of my childhood.
